Judge Conference

Event Image

Hello Everyone!

With the waning of the (counts in greek) 15th? wave of COVID, we are looking at being able to meet again in person. In addition to having physical judge conferences, we are also hoping for the return of premier level organized play. With judges having very little experience in this field over the last 2+ years, this conference is dedicated to all the things necessary to run an in person tournament. Possible presentation topics will include “applying to a large event”, “event logistics”, and maybe “what happens AFTER a large event: writing reviews and tournament reports”.

While this conference is titled “South Florida”, anyone that is willing to travel and meet up in person is welcome to apply. Preference will be given to local judges, but we will accept applicants up until the cap is reached.

Please note that as a PHYSICAL conference, foils will be distributed AT the conference.  This means applications will close a week prior to the event so the TO can make adjustments to store space and such and things.

Schedule:  Sunday June 26th

All Times are in Eastern Standard Time

12:45 – 13:00 Casey Fusté – Introductions

13:00-13:50 Michael Conlin – Delivering and Recording Penalties
14:00-14:50 Doug DeJong – How to Mess up a Judge Call
15:00-15:50 Bryan Prillaman – How to run an RCQ
16:00-16:50 Surprise Presentation!
17:00 – 17:10 Casey Fusté – Loot dispensing

Conference will be capped at 50 attendees.  Priority will go towards in region judges with an additional discriminator of quantity of previous conferences attended if needed.  We will accept up to the cap.  The application will ask for a cover letter. Please tell me something about yourself and why you want to attend this conference. If you wish to present, please check the presenters box and in your cover letter tell me what subject you would like to present on.

Masks may be required.  We are going to see what the landscape is, but if the LGS owner and I decide that masking up is the correct thing to do, there will be no exceptions. Don’t apply if this is something you are not willing to do.

While I will post to the Facebook group and discord, the primary mechanism for updates will be via the EVENT forums on the Judge Academy Website.  Make sure you are set up to receive emails from events you apply to.  As this is a physical conference, please do not rely on discord for notifications.

This event is foil support by Judge Academy.
In order to receive support you must:
1) Apply and be accepted to this event.
2) Be a Judge Academy certified L1 or higher at the time applications close.  (Not the time of the conference.  the time the application window closes)
3) Attend all 4 Presentations in their entirety. Do not be late.
4) Fill out a feedback form for at least 1 presenter.

Note: If this event does need to become online due to an unforeseen COVID surge the above information may change.  Thanks for being understanding.
