Welcome to the Judge’s Tower Tournament of Torment! This tournament will be run over Cockatrice using Discord for communication, and has space for an unlimited number of victims. If you are unfamiliar with Judge’s Tower, you can see a brief rundown of the format here, and the exact ruleset we will use is here.
As much as this format rewards attentiveness and rules knowledge, it also rewards a good understanding of policy philosophy and the ability to clearly argue your point of view. The rules document linked above is not comprehensive and any disagreements over its interpretation will be resolved by a vote of all players in the game. If the vote is tied, a spectator shall be consulted and their ruling is final. (You can of course argue within reason to see if they’ll change their mind.)
The entry fee for this tournament is $0 or $5, your choice. Those who pick the $5 option are entered into a communal prize pool, winner takes all. (Judge’s Tower is a brutal and unforgiving format.)
The tournament structure is as follows. All players will be randomly broken up into pods of 3-5 people. Each pod will play one game of Judge’s Tower to 3 shame. The winner of each pod will advance to the final pod, which will play to 1 shame. There is no time limit for the rounds. Spectators are allowed and will have their own Discord chat to talk about the game. If a spectator consultation is needed, a random spectator will join the game chat to arbitrate.
I’ll need a few people who are familiar with Cockatrice to help handle the logistics. The compensation for this position is the knowledge that you helped facilitate a tournament of Judge’s Tower.
There is no need to provide a cover letter, but please do answer the other questions.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about this event, please contact me. I’m happy to discuss potential changes to the rules, platform, date, etc. My email address is at the top of the page.
