Welcome to the Q1 Pittsburgh Area Mini Conference!
(Please note that this is an in-person event.)

Over the last two years, the Pittsburgh area has seen significant growth in both the number of local game stores, and the number of judges/judge candidates.  This is fantastic!

The aim for this conference is to gather a mixture of experienced judges and newer judges in a room to share knowledge, discuss past experiences, brush up on some rules knowledge, and hopefully learn something new that will make you an even better judge.

We have four presentations lined up (as well as a guided discussion at the end of the conference), and are still seeking two presenters** to give a 50-minute Powerpoint-style presentation.  We will have two rules knowledge-focused presentations, and two presentations on broader judging topics.

  • Presentation 1: Steps of Casting a Spell
  • Presentation 2: Layers
  • Presentation 3: Community Engagement as a Judge**
  • Presentation 4: Judging at Large Convention-Style Events**
  • Guided Discussion topic: “What I wish I knew before judging my first event”

**If you are interested in presenting, please apply!

This conference will be foil-supported for all Judge Academy certified judges who have successfully applied to the event and have an active membership as of the date of the conference.

Cover letter content will be considered during the application review process for this event, as space is limited.
Please do not submit an application with a blank cover letter.

The PA Department of Health continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing a mask where required by law, rule, and regulations, including healthcare, local business and workplace guidance.  For the protection of themselves and others, individuals who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public.  This conference will be abiding by these recommendations, and will communicate any updates to this policy closer to the event date.
