We’re back at it again for another Pittsburgh Area Mini Conference!

The topics we picked for this conference are sort-of a thematic mixed-bag. Each topic was chosen with care to address some knowledge and skill gaps in our local judge population in subjects our community doesn’t tend to talk about a lot. We want to develop more judges who can speak with confidence about these topics and be resources to others in the future.

We’re in the business of developing experts here in Pittsburgh, and conferences like this are where we aim to make that happen.

Judges from any geographic location are welcome to apply to this event, but priority will be given to those who live in/around Western/Central PA, Eastern OH, and Northern WV, as the intent for the conference is to develop the local judge community.

Here’s our lineup:

  1. Identifying Counterfeits – Eric Swanson
  2. Unsporting Conduct – Brandon Janiszewski
  3. Investigations – Kali Rainwater
  4. A Primer of the Pioneer Format – Ethan Smilg
  5. Guided Discussion: Tact, Upsetting Rulings, and Owning Mistakes – Hank Wiest

This conference will be foil-supported, so we will be able to offer all L1+ participants two Q2 Promos for the 2023 cycle (Retrofitter Foundry and Grindstone), as well as two promos from a previous wave (Animate Dead and Purphoros are expected).

Applications will be reviewed and processed on a rolling basis, and earlier applications will be given priority. Cover letters are not required for admittance to this event (though I do read them when folks choose to write them) due to the higher attendance cap at this venue (50).

Once we’ve reached the attendance cap with our applications, I will close the application window, so please make sure to secure your spot early!
