Welcome to the Q3 Pittsburgh Area Mini Conference!
(Please note that this is an in-person event.)

The aim for this conference is to gather a mixture of experienced judges and newer judges from both USA-East and USA-Midwest in a room to share knowledge, discuss past experiences, brush up on some rules knowledge, and hopefully learn something new that will make you an even better judge.

Judges from any geographic location are welcome to apply, but priority will be given to those who live in/around Western/Central PA, Eastern OH, and Northern WV, as the intent for the conference is to develop the local judge community.

The goal for this conference is to equip our local L1 judges with skills they need to become an L2 if they wish to do so.  As such, this will be a departure from previous conferences this calendar year because we will be focused primarily on L2+ topics for this event.

The agenda for the event is as follows:

  • Presentation 1) – The Modern Format in 2022 – Ethan Smilg
  • Presentation 2) – Deck Checks – Joshua Hudson
  • Presentation 3) – Customer service, Empathy, and Authority – Jeff Gregg
  • Presentation 4) – Gameplay Errors – Brad Saunders
  • Guided Discussion) Building a Positive Play Space and Encouraging New Players – Laura Regula
  • Magic TRIVIA! – Hosted by Taitan Games – This is optional and will occur after the conclusion of the conference itself.

Taitan Games has graciously volunteered to provide pizza and beverages for the attendees and presenters for this conference.  Party time!

This conference will be foil-supported for all Judge Academy certified judges who have successfully applied to the event and have an active L1 or higher certification as of the date of the conference.

Cover letter content will be considered during the application review process for this event, as space is limited.  Please do not submit an application with a blank cover letter. Applications will be reviewed/accepted on a rolling basis.
