Judges at Star City Games events are expected to positively contribute to the atmosphere of the event. They should behave in a professional manner at all times and constructively engage with players and other staff to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all attendees. Judges are expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire to begin judging at the start of their assigned shifts.
Magic focused Judges at Star City Games events are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Magic Tournament Rules, Comprehensive Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. These documents can be found at the Magic Judges Document Center.
Flesh and Blood focused Judges at Star City Games events are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Tournament Rules and Policy, Comprehensive Rules, and Penalty Guidelines. These documents can be found at the Flesh and Blood Rules and Policy Center.
Judges at Star City Games events will be provided a blue judge shirt for each day on staff, which is expected to be returned at the conclusion of their shift. The Judge should arrive with black professional attire and black, comfortable shoes. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove or cover their judge shirt.
CONTRACT AND TAX INFORMATION
Judges are independent contractors and will be required to sign an event contract for their work at a SCG CON Syracuse. Compensation for judges from the United States will be provided in the form of a check at the conclusion of your final shift of the weekend or mailed to your address following the event. International judges may elect to receive their compensation in the form of a PayPal payment after the event instead.
All Judges are required to submit a valid US tax form (W-9 or W-8 BEN) to Star City Games, in order to receive compensation.
As per the Wizards Play Network (WPN) policy posted in the Magic Rules and Documents, Star City Games is required to perform background checks on all public facing staff, including judges, contracted to work at our events. All judges may be asked to provide necessary information and consent required for Star City Games to engage a third-party organization to conduct a background check. Please note that these forms must be completed and returned by their respective deadline(s) if you wish to be considered for a contracted judge position at a Star City Games event.
