Staff Solicitation

TCGCon is excited to present its solicitation for TCGCon Denver!

TCGCon Denver will take place on May 20th and 21st at the Denver Western National Complex in Denver, CO.

Please be sure to read the entire solicitation before applying. Applications submitted through Judge Academy’s website will NOT be considered.

Roles

TCGCon is soliciting for the roles of:

  • Floor Judge – 3 open roles
  • Scorekeeper – 1 open role
  • Standby – 2 open roles

Expectations

Floor Judge

  • Judges are expected to act in a professional manner, contributing to the fun and atmosphere of TCGCon, as representatives of TCGCon.
  • Judges are expected to review the Magic Tournament Rules, Judging at Regular, and Infraction Procedure Guide before this event.
  • Judges are expected to arrive at 9am on each tournament day wearing judge shirt, black pants, black shoes, and belt unless directed otherwise by the Judge Manager.
  • Judges are expected to deliver rulings, answer questions, assist with rudimentary tournament software inquiries, maintain a safe and fair play environment, and complete other tournament specific tasks or procedures.
  • A typical judge shift will last for 8-10 hours, with an hour and half-hour long break being given throughout the day.

Scorekeeper

  • Scorekeepers are expected to act in a professional manner, contributing to the fun and atmosphere of TCGCon, as representatives of TCGCon.
  • Scorekeepers are expected to arrive at 9am on each day of the tournament, dressed in business casual attire unless otherwise directed by the Judge Manager.
  • Scorekeepers are expected to be familiar with Best Coast Pairings, and generally familiar with Swiss pairing structure.
  • During the event, Scorekeepers are expected to enter results, drop players, and complete other tournament software tasks and procedures.
  • Scorekeepers are expected to take payment for side event registrations, issue prize chips, and answer attendee questions.

Compensation

Staff will be paid via check or Venmo upon the completion of their work at TCGCon Denver. Staff will be required to complete the appropriate tax documentation before receiving compensation (W-9, W-8E, etc.).

**UPDATE** All judges for TCGCon Denver will be offered housing in a shared Airbnb. 

Floor Judges for TCGCon Denver will be paid $225 per day worked. 

Scorekeepers for TCGCon Denver will be paid $275 per day worked.

Standby

TCGCon may staff a limited number of Standby judges for TCGCon Denver. These judges will be given free entry to the main event of the day that they are staffed. If the event reaches a certain number of registrants, the Standby judge(s) will be activated, and asked to step into the role of a judge for that day. When activated, the judge will receive normal pay for that day’s work. TCGCon’s Judge Manager will be in contact with the Standby judge(s) to determine activation numbers, likelihood, and final decision. If staffed on standby, bring everything you’ll need to be a player, and everything you’ll need to be a judge.

TCGCon Judge Network Program

Judges are often deeply connected to their communities. We want you to bring those communities to TCGCon Houston! Judges staffed on the event will be given our 20% off ticket code to share with their friends and communities. Each time that code used by attendees to purchase a ticket, $5 will be added the judge compensation pool for the weekend. At the end of the weekend, judges will be paid an equal split of that pool in addition to their normal pay.

  • Applicants will be notified of their denial or acceptance on or before April 29th, 2023 at 11:59pm MST
  • COVID-19 Policy: This event will be run in accordance with any COVID-19 health and safety protocols as directed by the venue, municipality, state, and country. We also reserve the right to cancel this event at any time. TCGCon is not responsible for covering any outside costs incurred by event attendees, such as hotel, travel accommodations, or other purchases. We urge attendees to only book travel that is 100% refundable.
