Thank you for your interest in joining The Legacy Pit at our second Open! We’re very excited to welcome back judges to our Open series and we’re excited to have expanded it to include not just Magic’s best format, Legacy but also Modern and Vintage! Below, you will find all the information you’ll need to be a judge at our event. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or through the contact page on JA. We look forward to working with you!
Head Judge – Abe Corson
Appeals Judge/Checks Lead – Elliot Raff
Judge Manager – Ryan Freeburger
We are looking to add several judges to our team including both floor judges and team leads.
The judge staff for this event will be responsible for running the following events over the course of two days: A 20k Legacy Main Event, .a 5k Modern Memorial Tournament, a 2k Vintage Quest featuring 15 proxy vintage and three 1k side events featuring a mix of legacy and modern. Check out the full schedule here.
Judges for The Legacy Pit Open II are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. These documents can be found at the Magic Judges Document Center. As certified representatives of the Magic Judge Program, judges are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. Judges are expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire to begin judging at the start of their assigned shifts.
Judges at The Legacy Pit Open will be expected to wear a black collared shirt provided by The Legacy Pit, black pants, black belt and black, comfortable shoes. If you have previously judged with us, we ask that you bring and use the shirt from the first Legacy Pit Open. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove or cover their judge shirts. Judges will also be required to wear a mask at all times while in the Event Hall. This event has a Mask Mandate that requires players, staff, vendors and spectators to be wearing a mask at all times while inside the Event Hall. Judges will be expected to assist in the enforcement of the Mask Mandate in the same way that Judges are expected to assist with disruptive individuals. This event also has a vaccine or negative test mandate that applies to the staff as well. For more information on safety precautions, please read the FAQs.

On the google form that is part of this application, you will indicate whether or not you’d like to be considered for a standby role. If you indicate you would like to be considered for such, you may be offered a standby position. If that happens, you’ll receive an email within 48 hours of the event’s start informing you whether or not you’ll be activated for the event. If you are, you’ll be staffed as a floor judge for one or both days of the event, depending on what you indicate on the google form.
