Welcome to the second CAN-adian JAR-Themed Conference!

What’s a JAR themed conference? It’s a conference that focuses on Judging At Regular. Also a conference where I heavily imply presenters should stick hidden jars in their presentations and make canned food references. No guarantees on that. Anyways, we have a lot of new judges that like, spawned over the pandemic and something that keeps coming up is me asking judges how to handle things at Regular REL and them just reaching into their pockets and divining answers based on how their lint falls on the table. Instead of looking in the JAR. Which is bad.

I also need attendees. Cover letters that are long and boring are no good. Be brief but also tell me why you need this. ty.

The feedback form and mailing form will be in Discord. Which is here (https://discord.gg/FjZpFNFr) PRO TIP: It’s the same server as the last one because conservation of servers will slow down the heat death of the universe.

This conference will prioritize Canadian attendees, but judges from other regions are welcome to apply. The current cap is 150 but I’ll see how things go as the applications spawn. The conference is foil-supported and all foils will be shipped via plain white envelope. If you’d prefer tracking, I can do that if you pay for it, just let me know at some point before the foils go from my hand into the mailbox. Once the mailbox has it I can no longer control its fate and it’s up to the whims of the mail goddess, and you’ll need to pray to her or whatever.

Correspondence for this conference will be run in Discord with two tracks of presentations being run in Zoom.

Presentations are 50 minutes long, with ten minute intervals in-between to let you do whatever.

Our presenters are all awesome and the lineup is total gas so get hype:

Track A
10:00-10:50 Elaine Cao – The Logistics of Prerelease
11:00-11:50 Remy Abdelatty – Compare and Contrast of Comp REL & Regular REL
12:00-12:50 Maxime Émond – Fixes and the Philosophy Behind Them
13:00-13:50 Steven Zwanger – MTR Communication

Track B
10:00-10:50 Carik Smith – Intro to Regular REL
11:00-11:50 Lamberto Franco – Cultivating Your Community Through Organized Play
12:00-12:50 Isaac King – Giving Effective Feedback
13:00-13:50 Kris Burningham – The Regular REL Trivia Game

Backup Presenter: Jonathan Wilson

This conference is on May 28th and will begin at:

10:00 Pacific Time
13:00 Eastern Time

Total runtime is most likely around 4.5 hours. You need to be there for like, at least 3 presentations. Because the conference is foil supported I will be requiring that you say something constructive about one presentation. It would be better if you had good quality feedback about all four, but you know, there’s only so much I can hope for. Also there’s a tangible prize for writing feedback that is really good. It might be a bunny, it might be packs, it might be like some piece of magic judge merch that’s sitting in my closet. If there was ever a time to git gud at writing feedback it’s now.

See you there!
