UK Judges Community Conference III

We are pleased to once again offer a conference aimed at the UK judge community. Like previous instances in February and May this year, this conference will provide a day of content to develop personal, Magic, and judging skills, in a social environment.

Based on feedback from the last conference we will be maintaining a similar style and schedule, with two content tracks for most of the day, and anticipate the main conference content running from about 10:30am to 5pm, UTC (UK/Irish time), including a lunch break. NB: Due to a bug in the Judge Academy site, it is displaying the incorrect time. The correct start time is 10:30 UTC and not any other time that may appear above this.

Subject to demand and availability, a quiz and social gaming sessions will be available after the end of the main conference content.

Venue

Recognizing that international and, to a lesser extent, domestic travel are still subject to potential challenges, as well as the potential for mass events to be disrupted if the COVID-19 situation deteriorates, this conference will be online. Presentations/slide sharing and audio will be via Zoom. Text chat will be via Discord.

We have a range of excellent presentations for our conference, as follows:

Presenters and staff

We are looking for up to 10 presenters who will each present a session of around 50 minutes in length. Presentations may be on any Magic, judging, or adjacent topic. We are particularly looking to welcome a presenter who has judged or otherwise been involved in the running of large and/or competitive play in 2021. We would also entertain a presentation providing an introduction to another living or collectible card game to Judges. If you are not sure whether you or your topic would be suitable, we would encourage you to apply anyway or contact us for an informal discussion.

We are also looking for 1-2 moderators to assist with Q&A management, ensure sessions run to time, and deputize for the conference organizer when necessary.

Presenter and staff applications were open until 10 September via Google form; all slots have now been filled and all applicants, successful or not, have been contacted. If you applied and have not been informed of the outcome of your application, please contact me.

Eligible attendees

We welcome judges from around the world to participate. If space becomes limited, we will prioritize UK/Ireland based judges, followed by those based in Europe-North.

Update 5 October 21:00 – We already have more than twice as many attendees as we can accommodate. To manage expectations, very few non-Europe-North judges will get slots.

Foil support

Eligible certified judges who have applied by the deadline and are present, participate in a minimum number of sessions, and complete their personal details by the provided deadline will receive the then-current Judge Academy conference foil pack. The organizers will communicate shipment details by the end of the conference. Foils will be shipped free of charge worldwide; options will be available to upgrade, at a fee, from plain white envelope untracked surface mail. Please note that shipments will come from the UK and may well attract customs or other importation fees payable by the recipient and over which the organizers have no control.

Organizers, moderators, presenters etc. will receive a second foil pack.
