Hello fellow judges!
The pandemic has been a great source of rust for all of our judge skillsets, so it’s up to us as a community to continue to focus on not only skill maintenance but also skill-building. This conference will focus on soft skills, those things that are less about knowing the specific citable rules and penalties, and more about knowing best practices on how to engage with players and even other judges, as well as judges’ roles in digital engagements with players and how they differ from in-person engagement.
Schedule is as follows:
10:00-10:15: Opening Statements and Introductions
10:15-11:00: Panel 1:(Building a social media presence) – Presenter TBA
11:00-11:10: 10 minute break/wrap-up
11:10-12:00: Panel 2: Explaining Rulings to players – Isaac King
12:00-12:10: 10 minute break/wrap-up
12:10-1:00 Panel 3: (Observing the room, watching for problematic behaviors and how to better steer the room) -Fen Fierke / Presenter TBA
1:00-1:10 – 10 minute break/wrap-up
1:10-2:00 – Panel 4 : (Bias, and the role it plays in judging) – Andrew Branoff
2:00-2:10 – ten minute break/wrap-up
2:10-3:00 – Panel 5: Attendee Submitted Q&A regarding soft skills – Presenter TBA
Judges are currently needed to fill presentation slots. If you feel one of those panel topics matches something you’ve a) presented in the past, or b) is something you feel you could successfully present please by all means fill out an application!
