Join us for the second Western WA conference of 2023! The Non-Traditional Skills conference will begin at 4pm on Sunday 5/28 at Mox Boarding House Bellevue. While the first rounds of applications have closed, there may yet be space for late entries; apply if you like! The (estimated) schedule is as follows:

12:00pm-4:00pm – Judge Meetup/Stephan’s cube/MOM booster draft (optional, $15)

4:00pm-4:25pm – Check-in

4:25pm-4:30pm – Introduction and welcome

4:30pm-5:15pm – Speaking in Code: Speaking to Players in Language They Understand, Luke Brandes

5:15pm-5:25pm – Break to order food (optional)

5:25pm-6:10pm – Translating Judge Skills for Resumes, Eliana Rabinowitz

6:10pm-6:45pm – Break

6:45pm-7:30pm – Judge Skills in the Gaming Industry Q&A, Nicolette Apraez

7:30pm-8:15pm – Judge Skills at Judge Academy and Beyond Q&A, Eric Dustin Brown

8:15pm-8:30pm – Closing, feedback collection, foil packet distribution (attendees must be at least a Level 1 JA-certified judge by the date of the conference to receive foils)

We are lucky enough to have some veteran L3s for Q&As who have worked for a variety of TOs, Judge Academy, and even Wizards of the Coast! These sessions will begin with interviews concerning their histories with gaming and judging, bringing that experience into other fields and vice versa, but we encourage you to prepare some questions of your own to follow. That said, please understand that our presenters may not be at liberty to discuss certain topics, projects, or policies.

Mox Boarding House Bellevue is located at 13310 Bel-Red Rd, Bellevue WA 98005. Parking is available by both entrances, with the Birch Tree Academy lot to the east and Herc Rental lot to the west for overflow. Parking to the north by the mechanics’ shops is not recommended; do so at your own risk. The 226 and B Line RapidRide buses both have stops nearby. Please note that, as Mox features a full restaurant on-site, outside food and drink is not allowed. You are welcome to order snacks, meals, and drinks at the bar to be delivered to you in the Tournament Room where the conference is taking place, though! Facemasks are not required, but are encouraged.

Organizers and other judges will be hanging out beforehand if you’d like to get some games in, and there is a weekly store booster draft at noon if you’re interested in any structured play! Bring your Judge name tag if you have one!

Hope to see you there!

Stephan Classen, Nick Gajary, and Richard Neal
