Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in joining The Legacy Pit at our first Open! We’re very excited to be able to facilitate the return of paper Magic and we’re excited to be doing it with Magic’s best format, Legacy. Below, you will find all the information you’ll need to be a judge at our event. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at rfreeb20@vt.edu or through the contact page on JA. We look forward to working with you!

EVENT INFORMATION

Head Judge – Ryan Freeburger

Appeals Judge/Checks Lead – Jaime D’Agostino

Floor Lead – Jack Pullman

We are looking to add eight judges to our team. One Side Events Team Lead, one Lead Scorekeeper and six floor judges.

The judging staff for this event will be organized into three teams: The Floor Team, the Deck Checks Team and the Side Events Team. The Floor Team will primarily be responsible for round turnover, the distribution and collection of slips, and answering calls. The Checks Team will be primarily responsible for performing deck checks and collating match slips. The Side Events Team, just like the name suggests, will be in charge of running the scheduled side events that will be running alongside the main event.

EXPECTATIONS

Judges for The Legacy Pit Open are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. These documents can be found at the Magic Judges Document Center. As certified representatives of the Magic Judge Program, judges are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. Judges are expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire to begin judging at the start of their assigned shifts.

Judges at The Legacy Pit Open will be expected to wear a black collared shirt (If the judge owns any of the previous “judge” shirts, this is acceptable), black pants, black belt and black, comfortable shoes. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove or cover their judge shirts. Judges will also be required to wear a mask at all times while in the Event Hall. This event has a Mask Mandate that requires players, staff, vendors and spectators to be wearing a mask at all times while inside the Event Hall. Judges will be expected to assist in the enforcement of the Mask Mandate in the same way that Judges are expected to assist with disruptive individuals.
