Thank you for your interest in attending CommandFest Anaheim, hosted by Laughing Dragon Events!

Event Info:

CommandFest Anaheim is the ultimate three-day community gaming experience. This time around, the event will also coincide with the prerelease of The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, offering sealed prerelease events for all three days.


The event takes place June 16th to 18th in the Pacific Ballroom at the Hilton Anaheim. Each day will consist of scheduled prereleases, along with Open Play Commander Games, Competitive Commander Battle Pods, On-Demand Events and other scheduled side events.


Please read the application carefully before you decide to apply, and answer any questions asked in the application process.


The application window will close on May 12th at 23:59 PST.
Staffing announcements will be made no later than on May 17.


Early acceptance may be granted for individuals who need to make significant travel plans.


We will be taking applications for Registration, Prize Wall, Scorekeeper, Floor Judge and Judge Lead positions, in any combination of two-or three-day positions. Standby positions will also be utilized for the event. All applicants accepted for standby should expect to attend (admission will be provided) and work any of the three days on short notice.



The expected shift durations are listed below as follows.  Shifts will include a 1-hour break and at least one additional 30 min break. The Friday shift will begin no earlier than 8:00 AM. The Sunday shift will end no later than 7:00pm:

  • Judge – 10-12 Hours
  • Judge Lead 12-14 Hours
  • Registration 12-14 Hours
  • Scorekeeper 12-14 Hours
  • Prize Wall 12-14 Hours


Hotel Sponsorship/Travel Stipends:
Unfortunately at this time we are not offering travel and accommodation support. We apologize for the inconvenience.


Roles and Compensation:
You may apply for multiple roles, and you may have multiple roles over the weekend.


If selected for a Judging role, you may be asked to perform duties in one or more of the following areas:

  • Head Judge a Scheduled Event
  • Judge Scheduled Events
  • Judge On-Demand Events
  • Perform Judge Related tasks such as prepare product, distribute product, perform end of round.

Compensation: $250/Day


Judge Leads
As a Lead, you may be asked to perform duties in one or more of the following areas:

  • Lead On Demand Events
  • Lead Scheduled Side Events
  • Lead a Kickstarter Team
  • Floor Judge
  • Develop Break Schedule
  • Communicate with Scorekeepers, Administrators, and other Leads.

Compensation: $250/Day


Prize Wall/Registration
If selected as a Prize Wall/Registration, you may be asked to perform duties in one or more of the following areas

  • Registration
  • Prize Wall
  • Product Preparation
  • Other Administrative Tasks

Compensation: $200/Day


As a scorekeeper, you will be expected to bring practical, hands-on experience managing multiple events with MTG Melee.

  • Scorekeep Scheduled Events in MTG Melee
  • Liaise with Scheduled Event/On-Demand Event Judges
  • Address Judge/Player issues and concerns
  • Track event attendance and completion status
  • Generate On-Demand events.

Compensation: $250/Day



Laughing Dragon will provide shirts, passes and lanyards for all staff (judges with LD shirts please bring them for use). Dark pants free of holes/wear and comfortable shoes will make up the rest of the uniform. If we cannot accommodate your shirt sizes, original judge blacks or Judge Academy attire will work.



Please note that the Laughing Dragon Events Discord for this event will be used to communicate important news, information, and updates. We’ll provide invites to the server and judge channels after staffing has been finalized.


At all Laughing Dragon events, all accepted judge staff are treated as independent contractors.  Payment will be provided via PayPal in the week following the event. All staff will be required to submit a valid US tax form (W-9 or W-8 BEN) to Laughing Dragon Events. If any arrangements need to be made for alternate forms of payment, please discuss the matter with admin staff.

Per WPN policies all selected applicants will be verified against the National Sex Offender Registry located at https://www.nsopw.gov

As all events will be at Regular REL, familiarity with the IPG is less important than previous event experience at a large tournament.
