Welcome to the Edmonton Regional Championship In-Person conference! Please read thoroughly before applying!

Brief overview:

This conference is foil-supported, in-Person event (No Online options), hosted with two tracks:

Track A will be focused on the IPG, Competitive REL, and Policy Deep dives

Track B will be focused on the “Soft” skills of judging, rules, JAR implementation, and running events at Regular REL.

These two tracks will help YOU work on exactly what skills you want to improve!

This conference will be hosted at the Edmonton Public Library – Stanley A Milner Branch (7 Sir Winston Churchill Square)

This event is capped at 55 attendees.

 

Foil Support:

This conference is Foil supported as per the Judge Academy Guidelines. Any Judge Academy Certified Judge of Level 1 or higher will be eligible for Foil compensation, as well as compensation for presenters. Rules Advisors are welcome to attend, however there is no foil support for RA’s.

Please note that because of the Attendance cap, priority will be given to Certified Judges if the attendance cap is exceeded.

Foils will be distributed During the breaks in the Conference.

 

Schedule: (All times in MST)

The official conference will run from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM with 45 minute presentations every hour on the hour, with a 5 minute session for questions, and a 10 minute break. The Presentations are as follows:

4:00 PM: Opening Remarks

Track A: IPG, Comp REL, Policy

4:05 PM: Jovy Eramela – Introduction to Competitive Limited

5:00 PM: Isaac King – The Hidden Cogs of the Rules

6:00 PM: Brook Gardner-Durbin – Card Counting, Investigations, and More!

7:00 PM: Alex Scyner – I P GEOPARDY!

 

Track B: “Soft” skills, JAR, Regular REL

4:05 PM: Tobi Vyseri – DnD Style Build-A-Judge!

5:00 PM: Elaine Cao – What They Don’t Teach You in Judge Academy Modules

6:00 PM: Kat Winter – Steps of Taking a Judge Call

7:00 PM: Sam Tsafalas – Learning How to Learn in Magic – An Intro to Approaching the IPG

7:55 PM: Closing remarks

While the official conference will be from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, the Venue will be open for 45 minutes before the presentations begin and 30 minutes afterwards for some socializing time. This is NOT required to attend for foil compensation, however it’s a great way to meet your colleagues before the Regional Championships!

If you have applied to work the RC setup shift on Thursday or have work or personal commitments, please indicate that on your application. While you may miss the first part of the conference for the RC setup shift, it will not negatively affect your foil eligibility.

A Cover letter is not necessary if you are an attendee, but if you have a particular interest in one of the tracks, please indicate it in your application.

Presenters:

Presenter applicants should apply for both Presenter AND Attendee. Please include in your cover letter what your presentation Topic and/or title is. You are encouraged to apply with your presentations topic/title ahead of the deadline, however it is expected that you have your presentation fully prepared by the application deadline.
