Conflict is a form of interaction among parties that differ in interests, perceptions and preferences. As a Judge, you will encounter conflict in many forms, many times over.
Conflict is a multi-dimensional construct, and shouldn’t be considered a “bad” thing, but rather something we need to recognize in terms:
- What type of conflict we are experiencing
- Where it is occurring
- Who is experiencing conflict
- What is causing conflict
This module will start off with a quick recap of conflict, move on to ways to manage conflict, and then manage emotions. It will then discuss effective communications, especially in a conflict management context, and discuss individual and cultural differences that might impact conflict management. Finally, it will provide recommendations for moving beyond conflict.
