End of 2022 Judge Academy News and Updates

Hello Judges!

At the start of November we made our big announcement about upcoming changes going into 2023, so we didn’t do much of a monthly wrap-up. Now seems like a perfect time to talk about both November and December and ALSO more developments on the changes we’re making going into 2023. You all like updates, so updates you shall have!

Card images have now been spoiled! Check these out:

December 31st is the membership renewal deadline for most judges. If you haven’t renewed yet, now is the time to do so! Judge Academy recently released an article explaining how to renew your membership. The article also answers a couple of FAQs, so go check that out here:

Judge Academy’s demographic survey is now live! The survey is wholly anonymous and entirely optional, but we really hope to hear from you about who you are, and what’s important to you. For our international community, we have had the survey translated so that it is available in 9 different languages:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Brazilian Portuguese.

You can find more information here:

We talked a bit about re-regioning plans at Magic 30 and in discussions afterward. The Judge Academy team has been collecting feedback and analyzing the distribution of our judge populations to decide how to proceed. Let us know if you have any thoughts/feedback/suggestions regarding region changes!

As a reminder, updated non-USA regions will be announced in January. Updated USA regions will likely be announced in the summer, but end of 2023 at the absolute latest.

Judge Academy translations into Portuguese Chinese are underway! The first translation project will be the Level 1 final exam, followed by L1 modules, then individual website pages. A huge thank you to all our incredible translators for their hard work! We are very excited with the results so far and we think your communities will be too.

Level updates are still in progress! The biggest changes are happening to the Level 3 advancement process, but there are plenty of things going on with every level, so don’t feel left out. Read more about those changes in Jonah’s recent article:

Bryan Spellman – LTHJ Badge
Brook Gardner-Durbin – Day 2 TL Badge

Travis Lauro has achieved Level 3!

The holidays are certainly a hectic time of year. If stress starts to pile up remember to lean on your fellow judges for support. You are all such incredible folks and we’re honestly so blessed to have one another. Keep on being your wonderful, amazing selves! Reach out to us if you have any questions or comments to wrap up your judging experience in 2022. 2023 is right around the corner and the Judge Academy team is working hard to make this upcoming year better than ever for our international Magic community.

Best wishes,
Samma + The Champions

It looks like the initial 2023 moratorium on new conferences has been lifted…but so far I’m not seeing any Phyrexia: All Will Be One primer conferences like there were for past sets, or really much of any online conferences…have these been killed off or are approvals on them just pending still? They were extremely valuable.
